SF Opera tried to mount Mephistofele for Pavarotti. They suspected he might cancel so they hired James Morris who could sing almost anything. Slatinaru was the soprano. Big P did cancel and was replaced by Giacomini. That's how I came to see Giacomini and Slatinaru in Tosca. She was the best Tosca I ever heard live.

@iditzi she is still teaching in the Bucarest music academy. She is one of my favorite sopranos! A beautiful voice!

thank you very much ONEGIN,i am happy to see Maria Slatinaru,I met her personally in Swiss,but never have seen her on scene,she is wonderful.I heard nowadays she teaches in the Bucarest music academy.Thanks again
