Visit: http://www.atlanticrowingrace09.com for info on the race.

Visit: http://www.ocean2summit.com for info on Rob and Stu in the Ocean Summit boat.

The map shows the approximate position of Rob and Stu in the Ocean Summit boat at the time.

"Hey guys, this is Rob, I'm currently in the cabin, it's about 10 o'clock at night on the 10th January and we've had a very, err, interesting 48 hours.

"Focusing on yesterday, the sea was so calm and tranquil, we could high five some turtle that swam by us, and as the night ensued it was incredibly quiet, in fact, I've never heard a quiet like it..., is that a tautology? Anyway, who knows, but [inaudible] from nothing, is incredible.

"Then the clouds, sort of encompassed the boat, and we were literally having no references at all to up, down, left, right, whatever, and all I did see, and all that Stu saw, was the most incredible, phosphorescence from the plankton. The most incredible sight, [inaudible] glistening on the surface as we smacked the oar into the water. I'm not sure smacked is a word I should be using, but hey ho, I'm tired.

"And today we've been battling against winds that are counter-productive to our progress, they've been north westerlies, and we need north easterlies to push us south and west, but this afternoon it very much has changed and we now have strong winds propelling us south west. We're now aiming for latitude 20 and longitude 25, notherly 20 and westerly 25, that's our push point right now.

"We've just seen Spirit of Montanaro - http://www.atlanticrowingrace09.com/progress/byteam/15 - on our AIF, this IR chart plotter something that tells us what other vessels are around, so we're actually making progress on the fleet, which is really, really encouraging.

"Anyway guys, thank you all so much for tuning in and supporting us via our twitter site. We can't unfortunately see the messages that you guys are posting for us, but we look forward to it very much, to be able to read those when we get home, so please keep posting them. It's not in vain and it keeps the community together.

"OK, so that's all from Robster, Stu's rowing so I'm sure he sends his love to you all. Take care everyone, bye bye."

Background:

The Dream: To raise as much money as possible for Marie Curie Cancer Care, whilst pitting ourselves against some of the greatest mental and physical challenges on earth.

Challenge 1: We will set off rowing from La Gomera in Gran Canaria on the 6th of December 2009. We will face 2700 miles of open water and all that mother nature and one or two sharks, whales and container ships can throw at us. Our shedule will involve a rotation system of alternating 2 hour rowing shifts. In our alternating 2 hours of down time we will eat our rehydrated Army style ration packs and hopefully catch up on some sleep. Approximately 2 months later we will hopefully arrive in English Harbour, Antigua, where our slightly leaner and broken bodies will be met by friends and family.

Challenge 2: In the Spring of 2010 we are aiming to Summit Mt Everest, Rob for his 6th time and Stuart for his 1st. This somewhat depends on surviving challenge 1!...
