The Mari (distantly related to the Finns, Estonians and Hungarians) are an indigenous people in the Eastern part of European Russia. These clips were all shot in the area of Yoshkar-Ola, the capital of the Mari El Republic which is part of the Russian Federation.

Part 1 features traditional dances and music, Part 2 also includes slightly modern musical arrangements.

Where in Yoshkar-Ola is this? I spent a week in Yoshkar-Ola in good weather and all the men were wearing football T-shirts and the women wearing trendy clothes. It's very interesting, but not typical.

I have been to MArii El last summer and are going there this summer too. I'am not dancing liket hat, but we have very nice night clubs in Yoshkar Ola. We have bands and all we want. Actualy i live in Norwaym, but from Yoshkar Ola
