Mexico's federal police arrested ten men and four women who are suspected of drug trafficking and are linked to the Beltran Leyva drug cartel.

[Rodrigo Esparza, Federal Police Commissioner]:
"The federal secretary of public security announced the arrest yesterday of 14 suspected members of the Beltran Leyva criminal organization in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos. These people carried out logistical and operational tasks for the Beltran Leyva organization in Morelos and the State of Guerrero.

One of the arrested men is thought to be the ringleader.

[Rodrigo Esparza, Federal Police Commissioner]:
"Once inside, the police detained 73-year-old Salomon Pineda Bermudez and 59-year-old Leonora Villa Portono. One of their sons is accredited to the criminal organization as "El Borrado." We investigated his identification and the IDs he was carrying when he was captured were all fake. According to intelligence "El Borrado" is the principal operator for Arturo Beltran Leyva in the region."

Drug violence has increased in Sinaloa State since 2008 due to the rift between two powerful drug cartels, Joaquin Guzman, who is Mexico's most wanted man, and Beltran Leyva. The Beltran Leyva family is suspected of the murder of Guzmans son in a military-style attack in 2008.

Mexico is offering multiple rewards of up to $2 million for information leading to the capture of the country's drug kingpins. Mexico's President, Felipe Calderon made it a top priority to control drug violence and has sent thousands of troops across the country to break up the gangs. The drug war killed some 6,300 people across Mexico last year.

  • THE IS MY MEXICO

  • 1 Drug dealer arrested, 10 others take his place, arrest 10 drug dealers 100 take their place, the cycle will never end, as long as there is demand, there will be supply. Legalize it? Problem solved.

  • @ArtegaUK....My point is if they had a death sentence for drug trafficking in the past, the many that the Mexican police had caught would have been been hanged by now, and that would have served a strong deterrent to the drug gangs. Because the many who were caught in the past are just being jailed, we now have others who dare to have a shoot-out with the police. They know that if they lose out in the shoot-out & raise their hands in surrender, they are not going to die for their crimes.

  • @opsvideo2008 I agree with the fact they should be punished for their actions, but a death sentence won't frighten many of those who on a daily basis are in shootouts with the local police og military. I believe that a huge step towards solving this situation is to legalizing marihuana wich is the most trafficked drug but also the one resulting in the fewest side effects by using it.

  • If death sentence by hanging was used on the traffickers, it would scare the living daylights out of them after a few public hangings have been carried out. They would start to realize that when they traffick drugs, the hangman's noose is just around the corner waiting for them. The current punishment of jailtime, as it is now, is like a teacher's rap on their knuckles compared to the hanging sentence. The Mexican govt & judiciary needs to toughen up before they can hope to win this war.

  • @opsvideo2008 you some kind of "war on drug cartel" expert?
