Saturday 19th June brought a challenge. Try and video four separate trains heading for different destinations and the six locos that would be pulling them.
An early start was needed for the first train, The Bath & Bristol, Three Bridges to Bristol and return and so 5am saw us on the platform at Hanwell to catch Black 5 44871 as it headed away from Southall with the empty stock.
Next it was off to White Waltham for The Great Western 175 that was travelling from Paddington to Minehead behind D1015 Western Champion. The bridge at White Waltham has been fitted with ugly steel fencing since we were last there and we were fortunate to find an alternative vantage point on a grass bank nearby.
From White Waltham it was on to Oxford for The Red Dragon. At 8:50, exactly on time, 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe appeared round the curve as it accelerated away from Oxford station. At Foxhall Junction, near Didcot, the Castle handed the train over to 6201 Princess Elizabeth for the onward journey to Swansea and we captured loco number four from the top of a spoil heap near Milton.
From Milton we embarked on a 50+ mile dash to Dunbridge to see 44871 for a second time. Sadly we didn't make it, the sight of photographers returning to their cars showed that we had missed it by only a few minutes.
A more leisurely drive up the M3 brought us back to Syon Lane in time for 60163 Tornado on a VSOE Luncheon Special around the Surrey hills. Tornado was a last minute replacement for a failed Clan Line, so last minute in fact that word hadn't got round and it was only enthusiasts that turned out to see it. Bypassing Guildford we went to a foot crossing near Albury for a second shot of the A1.
For the evening it was out to Aldermaston for the return of The Great Western 175 behind 6024 King Edward I. While the King took water at Theale we took up position in the road beyond the station ready to see it leave.
A lengthy station stop at Reading meant it was easy to beat 6024 to Taplow for one more shot.
Finally, having followed the King all the way from Taunton, Western Champion passed through, ten minutes behind the train.

  • absolutely fantastic, must have been tired by the end of the end lol, bet youd love to capture 4 trains every week lol

  • @eggbert21 Thanks very much. This day wasn't as difficult to film as it may seem, as it was only The Red Dragon that didn't pass through the London area where I live. It wasn't that long ago that train operating companies had an agreement not to run steam on the whole network if one of the others had a trip planned. So to get four tours in the South East on the same day shows how times have changed.

  • Hello once again. Not seen one of yours for a while now, but as train videos and filming them go, you certainly set a very high standard. Keep it up, not many people on YT have your knack in being able to capture very good high quality footage, thats a pleasure to watch.

Most definite thumbs up from me. Well deserved.

  • @Bevoin1970 Thank you so much for your comment. It's a pleasure for me to produce these videos to share with everyone in the hope that they entertain. To receive praise like yours tells me i must be doing something right. Thanks again for watching.

  • Outstanding video. And well done for managing to see all of the tours. Having made other plans I didn't see any of the trips but thankfully you have them covered!

  • @hurleyfunbags Thanks for your continued support, it certainly was an enjoyable day.
