They're collecting the aphids for food. The Ladybug is also an enemy to the aphids.

ants are "tending" aphids. Basically by tickling aphids with their antennae they encourage aphids to secreate honewdey - sugary liquid which ants will use as food. It is similar to how people are milking cows.

This is happening on the plumb trees in my back yard, it has killed them and It's become a nuisance. We're going to get rid of the trees next year...

It's sad really, we were looking forward to having some plumbs.
