I once owned a 1959 600 CSR, it was the first vertical twin built with a three bearing crackshaft. It also was the first bike to average 100mph for one hour, later Velocette beat that record with a Thruxton Venom thye did it for 24 hours.
I had one, too, when I lived in Mass. Bought it around 1970 and sold it a couple of years later. Used it to commute to work winter and summer. It was some sort of sport model with a small gas tank, but it had the same 2-into-one exhaust. It sounded just like this one. Good memories.
Years ago, before I was old enough to legally ride a motorcycle, a guy in my town used to leave one of these outside his house on the main road, even late into an evening sometimes. Do that now and it'd be either gone in five minutes or else smashed up. Such a shame, half the joy of ownership has gone these days. My bike's in a garage with bolts on the inside and a PIA alarm and I never leave it out of my sight when I go for a ride. I love your bike, it's very stylish and sounds great.
My future wife and I took it to the Isle of Man in 1965, we did the usual bloody sunday run and left the beezers and triumphs in the dust.
Hell I wish I could do it all again, just one more time, the glory days...
And yes Aphidboy you are quite right, Ajays were blue, mine was, with a black frame and Alumium mudguards.

Weren't most AJS bikes blue, while their Matchless "sisters" were red?

Used to have AJS 1956 Twin cylinder 600cc. Sold it in 1974 for £150.00 what a mistake. Dad had bought it in Canada in 1956 and brought it back to UK.

Very nice AJS.....Why don't you show us the righthand side?
And an astride kick start is easier and gives more feeling with your motorcycle...
