@backyarddoall my friend bought a '91 cherokee with the 4.0 straight 6 engine it has been straight piped so it sounds as mean as hell and it's a bit of a rocket too i mean top speed isn't much but it gets there in no time and you're right the fuel mileage is terrible he has his lpg converted lol

@kellenyiszabolcs It is just a matter of switching two jumpers behind the VIC.
-
@backyarddoall And how does your VIC know, that you have a 242, and shows Part Time, Full time, etc... ?
Did you have to program it with an OBD scan tool?
-
Thank you VERY, very much. That is the best, most logical/knowledgeable advice I've received yet.
-
Yes, I changed the NP 249 for a NP 242. The orignal NP249 broke putting power to the front wheels only. Made for an interesting burnout.

I see you put in a select trac transfer case ?
To bad you can't hardly hear the roar of the sweet sounding engine over the gay music!

@fireman1 That is George Thorogood, Good music. Also, with that quiet muffler on there, can't hear the engine anyway. Radio was turned way down as it was.

Thinking about buying a 98 Cherokee limited ed. Dont know much about them. Are they good vehicles? Dependable? This one has 204k mi. good condition tho. 3k on sticker. 2500+- blue book.
ANY advice would be helpful...

They are prone to electrical problems, transfer case problems, and axle problems. They drink gas like there is no tomorrow, the 5.9L broke a whooping 13MPG most days, don't expect to see 18MPG in any grand cherokee configuration. Paying more then $2000 is too much. If you have no mechanical knowledge, don't buy a grand cherokee. Go find a regular cherokee, they are solid, dependable, more economic, nearly unbreakable, and more fun to drive.
