Because of Master Clarke's training, I won the Gold Medal in the 1994 International Kuoshu Championship in Pushing Hands.
Although Master Clarke makes TC sound easy, but be prepared for his training regimen. He may have gotten easier over the years.....I lived w/ him for 5 years and our apartment was empty except for our beds and one table (no chairs). To eat sitting down meant you sat in a horse stance.....Ok we did have a small TV LOL.

Excellent video expressed with real wit. Good stuff.

As a fellow teacher and practitioner myself I appreciate his perspective... it is one of an experienced and learned man. I imagine he would be an outstanding training partner... After reading the top comments I am interested if Master Clarke would have several interpretations for individual moves, allowing for each movement in the form to contain different energies within....

Thanks for posting. This teacher has a good reputation but I fear some of the teachings could restrict some of his push hands students. Just because a technique is not seen in the form does not mean its energy cannot be manifested in tuishou (1:32). Technique in the form is like a map with basic details of the terrain. Limit yourself to looking at the map and you may miss the beautiful landscape. Like my old friend Bruce used to say.."It's like a finger pointing the way to the moon..."

nice video! I think, with the "SPEED" Point, u r right. about the techniques its against the principles! In the Form there r techniques, but at tui shou, or "application" there CAN`T be any techniques. There should only be the "EIGHT ENERGIES". Those energies can manifest in all kind of moves... In YOUR Form maybe those move doesn`t exist, but in another Taijiquan Form maybe... Or even nowhere, but still the move can be an expression of one ENERGY. So techniques r for the Form, not for tuishou!

Excellent video. I wish they taught some of these principles at more schools.

not only very intelligent but also practical analysis of the yang style form. He would be worth studying with.

Good advice for someone going to a push hands tournament. He believes in having class and being a scholar as a practitioner instead of letting push hands degenerate into a wrestling match.
push hands is a training method...
If you want to turn it into a competition... then it will always become wrestling. That is why Shuaijiao fighters generally trump Taiji people in Push Hands competitions.

Interesting lesson, the master definitely spend much time figuring out how each form works.
