95% of hackers are script kiddies so you have little to worry about. Just update on new security measures regularly and you will be fine. The reason why these things happen is because people are careless or just ignorant to networking vulnerabilities. Once people wise up and become computer savvy and take proactive measures then shit like this won't occur so often.
