However they also went east were they encountered the Byzantine Empire and the city of Constantinople which they called "Miklagard"...The Great City!! @bbbbbzzzzzz True granted that many pronounce "W" as a "V" ok I will concede that but does not prove the Viking's were well versed in Latin numbering so much so as to delibratley to incorporate it in coded form into their common venacular. Besides those Norsemen who became "Vikings" or "Raiders" were a small percentage of the Scandanavian populace. Most left Scandanavia because land was scarce and what didnt belong to Jarls etc was of poor quality thus it proved hard to eke out a living.

@Flashaman1845 I don't know where you're from but in many countries the letter W is pronounced as V. As for the Vikings, if you believe that they came to North America only to hang out in Newfoundland for a while you've no whistle to blow. Vikings were going through all of North America. Settlements have been found further west into Canada and ships have been found down in Baja. They were the ones who built the pyramids in Mexico and even natives of that area speak of them.

I guess all those years I spent at Glasgow Uni and QUB in Belfast studying Archaeology, Classics & Ancient History, Celtic Civ and Byzantine studies was all a total waste of time!! This is all conjecture you can poke holes in nearly everything thats said! They try hard to build links between so many historical areas with no hard evidence to back it up !! It got to such into such ludicrous assumptions like the Union Jack etc I turned it off!
