Vasari worked for the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo I di Medici.
Vasari's works was a kind of old advertisement of Medici's government, The Medici family had not noble origins, they were bankers, so They needed to create legitimacy for their government, for that they titled themselves descendants of the Romans and patrons of the roman art that died in the middle age and reborn with the Medici, so Vasari used the italian word for Rebirth, "Rinascimento".
Alike gengski and johnny, upons many thanks to for uploading this. Definately a top favourite to me of art documentaries. It's travels and discoveries like these that got me into Art History. Classical and rennaissance art all the way :-)
Thankyou so much for putting this up! :D I reckon Andrew Graham-Dixon is one of the best art critics around. And he's well good at languages! Again, massively grateful :]
thank you so much for posting this great documentary!
