Here I am able to pull the fiber into a roving successfully with the milk cap diz. I wasn't to weigh the finished ball of roving before my scales battery was exhausted, but I will update you later. I hope this video is helpful. .

  • thank so much for your comment. I found a nice sized button with a smaller hole that I am going to try using the next time.

  • can you knit with roving yarn as it is

  • i think there are a few things going on making it hard for you to pull the roving here. #1: your wool still has lanolin, making it "stickier" and harder to pull. the warmer the temp where you are dizing, the warmer the lanolin, the easier to pull.

#2: if you DON'T push the diz all the way up to the hackle, it will be easier.

#3: turn the milk cap around so the flat part is pushing up towards the hackle.

these are just some starters. you'll figure it out the more you practice! good luck!!!

  • If you make the hole in your diz smaller it will be easier to pull the fiber off the hackle. I just learned to diz with my combs and found the bigger the hole I tried to pull fiber, the harder it was. When I went to a smaller opening I was able to draw some beautiful sliver. Good luck.
