Technically, a "communist" is a person who advocates communism. And "communism" is an economic system in which property and the means of production are owned by the entire community/country/etc., rather than owned by the state (like in socialism) or by private companies or private citizens (like in capitalism).

So for example, in a "communist" society the workers would run the bank, clothes and food and houses would be shared by everyone, etc.
