@elchafa Watts was a genius of sorts because he gave us ways to think about things differently. He created some new ways to use language to help us have new tools to use for new thoughts. This is something geniuses do. Anyway, language doesn't come from any Central Bureau of Proper Word Usage. Language comes from those of us who use it. We make it to express our thoughts.

@SrDisorden Hell yeah.

It sort of tracks into Neil deGrasse Tyson's statement that "I know that my body is traceble to phenomenon in the cosmos"; we don't seek to travese the universe, we are *part* of the universe, we are *of* the universe.
-
@itsagass objectivity is subjective. Science, math, logic, religion, these are systems used to understand the universe. We shouldn't mistake the systems FOR the universe. Also, what is this advancement for? What is the peak? Is there a peak? Perhaps instead of constantly striving for the maximum we should strive for the minimum.
-
Yes, you're absolutely right. But let's be realistic, advancement exists for the sake of creating more leisure time for people. And I wasn't disagreeing with objectivity or science, I was merely stating that dedicating 100% of your brainpower to it makes you nothing more than an machine for breeding order out of chaos.
Also, I was pointing out that your nitpickiness regarding Watts' choice of words means that you missed his point. Why must everyone be obliged to speak a certain way?
Where did the life on the meteorites come from then?

@ARURTOREYES Exactly, but it's still not necessary to think about all this literally. I'd say from Watts' perspective, it doesn't really matter. Mythologizing is just a way of understanding experience.

The problem is that this belies what we now know (as of recent discoveries.) Life did in fact come here from somewhere else. It wasn't in the rocks. We know this, because it's been found in meteorites, and the odds are infinitely against the possibility of separate identical evolutions. Also, apple is not a verb, people is not a verb, there was never any apple-ing or people-ing. ("Being populated," from the latin, is accurate.)

@itsagass I think perhaps Alan Watts is not for you. That is just the type of literal thinking that Watts is countering in many of his lectures and writings. I'm going to take a wild leap here and guess that you are not an artist?
