I don't see why it's such a shock!! People convert to different religions every day. Actually I have like 3 friends who were catholic who became Muslim. This is the religion of Abraham. @thefreakface The pre-Islamic Arabs still had remnants of Abraham's religion. The Hajj, for instance, which pre-dated Muhammad was a commemoration of the birth of Ishmael to Hagar and the miracles from God that saved them. They believed in Allah as the supreme God but believed in intermediary deities as well. Muhammad was just returning them to the religion of Abraham that they had deviated from. Btw I converted to Islam, alhamduliLLah (similar to "hallelujah" which means Praise God)!

@ mrnoorhadi, its the fastest growing religion because each arab woman breeds 10 more little arab children, resulting in exponential growth. I hardly ever hear of people converting to islam. Most people believe it is corrupt and evil religion, (just look at the arab world, how women are treated).

@thefreakface the Hebrews are the descendants of Isaac and the certain portions of the Arabs are descended from Ishmael (Muhammad is a direct descendant of Ishmael). Judaism didn't exist until the revelation of the Torah to Moses (long after Abraham). Abraham's religion wasn't Islam in the sense used today but rather in the literal meaning of Islam in Arabic "Submission" or "Obedience," to the will of God.
