  • What, pray tell, is "the job?" To sing flawlessly and to impact in a totally theatrical manner the audience? Once again, taste is a highly individual thing in opera.

  • @smuconn

Let's just say that flawed singing would greatly weaken, if not damage, the "impact" by distracting audience in a negative way. It's a pity that as an "actress" she's done a superb job, but as a "singer"? alas!

  • totally agree. I uploaded this video for visual impact of the production. Unfortunately the singer is so not up to the job.

  • I am never too critical about singers but this is just a horrible rendition

under the tone all the time - false pitch all the way through

the vibrato spreads between more than a tone - i wonder how long she can sing

just listen to the final note of the geheimnisvoller musik at 10.33 - abominable

  • To bad it wasn't sung by someone of Nillson's vocal ability, it would have been superb. Great mise en scene, but so so soprano.

  • What can I say? To be handsome and sing beautifully requires a miracle (eg Waltraud Meier!), but since opera is all about singing I'd accept any physical figure, provided that the singing is satisfactory. The sexy Michael can sometimes be pretty dire (eg her 2004 Viennese Eboli), but I don't think she's extremely unbearable here, especially considering the role she's singing

  • Once again, a thin, attractive woman who can act takes on a role she has no business singing. This voice, when it was in decent condition, if ever, sounds like it would be right for Donna Elvira at most. Is the opera world better off for her histrionic meanderings around the stage - I mean "acting". Call me old fashioned, but I seriously think not. Our only consolation is that she won't be singing for much longer. That day can't come too soon!

  • Rubbish ~ better than a fat old cow bellowing! This is PURE Strauss!!! Get over it folks!

  • Good actress. Now if only she knew how to sing...

She's doing Lady Macbeth at the Met next year. The mind boggles.

  • fantastic! never seen anything like it! pitty volium us so low...
