sprinkle remaining bacon and chopped chives on top.

REMEMBER!...

DO SOMETHING WONDERFUL FOR SOMEONE IN 2008!

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you'll buy your pint cup
And surely I'll buy mine
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine
But we've wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

And there's a hand my trusty friend
And give us a hand o' thine
And we'll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

Peace,
Sam

"Auld Lang Syne" is a song by Robert Burns (1759--1796), although similar poems by Robert Ayton (1570--1638), Allan Ramsay (1686-1757) and James Watson (1711) as well as older folk songs, use the same phrase, and predated Burns.

The song's (Scots) title may be translated into English literally as 'old long since', or more idiomatically 'long long ago', or 'days gone by'. In his retelling of fairy tales in the Scots language, Matthew Fitt uses the phrase "In the days of auld lang syne" as the equivalent of "Once upon a time". In Scots Syne is pronounced like the English word sign — IPA: [sain] — not [zain] as many people pronounce it.

Robert Burns forwarded a copy of the original song to the Scots Musical Museum with the remark, "The following song, an old song, of the olden times, and which has never been in print, nor even in manuscript until I took it down from an old man's singing, is enough to recommend any air." At the time it was very fashionable to claim one's own work was "traditional"; therefore one should take Burns' statement with mild skepticism. Some of the lyrics were indeed "collected" rather than composed by the poet and the ballad Old Long Syne printed in 1711 by James Watson shows considerable similarity in the first verse and the chorus to Burns later poem. It is a fair supposition to attribute the rest of the poem to Burns himself.

Beginning in 1929 Band leader Guy Lombardo is often credited with popularizing the use of the song at New Year's celebrations in America, through his annual broadcasts on radio and TV. The song became his trademark, and besides his live broadcasts, he recorded the song more than once, the first in 1939, and at least once later, on September 29, 1947, in a record issued as a single by Decca Records.

  • Sam, were you at Trader Joe's? Sigh I miss Los Angeles so very much. I can't remember the name of the Grocery store it was, it was in Silverlake, high end, great place to shop, I saw you running around talking to someone on your cell phone talking about Lobsters. What the hell was the name of that store? The shopping carts had places for your coffee cup. Funny actually because I was buying ingredients for MY special dip :)

  • No that was not Trader Joes- though I LOVE TJ's and go there all the time. It's in my hood. You could have seen me at Gelsons. It's near us and it's high end so that's what you might have been thinking. The last time I made lobster was last Christmas - I did whole lobsters for Xmas! But I went to the fish place for them. I often go to several grocery stores/specialty places for a dinner.

  • OH.......MY.........GOD. Where did you ever find such incredibly gorgeous and cute "dip testers????"

  • Well, dip tasters are historically gorgeous and cute. You would know that if you spent any time in the world of dip. These girls happen to be exceptionally gorgeous, though their tasting skills have slipped a bit since 2 out of 3 preferred the cheap store bought dip. - Sam

  • HEY!

    Try it now!

  • Have you always cooked? Your families are very dip oriented.lol Do you know, plastic wrap has PVC's which releases dioxins in the microwave. The brand Saran is said to have a new formula which does not: )

  • Sam-

You cooking on your vlog is just like watching the Food Network. Two of my favorite things wrapped up in one video, more bang for my buck so to speak. Both dips sounded great, could you please post the recipes somewhere? I'd especially like the one for the Corn-Bacon Dip. Sounds very yummy. I Tend to do a lot of entertaining, and could always use a fresh new recipe. Thanks for sharing.

  • You seem to have had the amazing knack of converting everyone into thinking it was going to be 2008, and not 2009. ^_^ But you know that now, right?

  • LOL...this vid made me LOL.

i like you best when your self-deprecating side comes out...btw, i also have done the super-duper-colon-cleanse a few times...glad that i'm unaware if you have vlogs about your *cough* 'results'

  • this is one of my favorite vlogs that you've done, sam. i STILL crack up when i watch the part when you tell your dog (who is asleep), to "calm down"! happy 2009. i'm looking forward to seeing all the wonderful things in store for you this year:-) xoxo-vicki

  • I keep finding old videos from you Sam and I crack up. You are so funny. The bacon and corn dip looks very yummy. I love all kinds of beans and peas so I'd love the black eyed pea dip I'm sure. No one likes to be around me because of this though. :)

Emma calm down! How can you have such a wild animal in your home? woof!

  • this reminds me of my husband who loves to cook things from a 5 star restaurant cookbook. It takes forever just to get a little bit but it is darn good! Williams Sonomas has a corn utensil that might make that corn dip easier to make. My husband makes a corn and mushroom (I think..can't recall right now) chowder that is out of this world!

  • I don't care if you gained 30 pounds! You are hot hot hotm baby!
