July 19, 2012 - In a floor speech, Rep. Gutierrez says that 104 Democrats signed a letter telling the President "thank you" for his policy of extending prosecutorial discretion to DREAM Act-eligible youth and underscoring the fact that the President took this action to allow immigration enforcement officers to go after serious criminals. The prosecutorial discretion that the President is exercising is backed by a considerable body of case law, including the recent Supreme Court decision in Arizona v. U.S. Even key Republicans opposed to immigration reform have supported this policy.

Also, I didn't check my grammar or spelling on this rant so I apologize if anything seems incoherent or is difficult to understand.

If say a parent is deported and he or she is the primary or even sole breadwinner, the family must then find a way to make up the difference in income. Those things would all be paid for by the government so really when you mention the $585M you're narrowing in on one number, not the broad picture or the overall implications of what you ask for.

Say the government went after all of them at once, that would mean taking resources away from capturing violent criminals who might then take a backseat to the overwhelming number of DREAMers. Those proceedings aren't paid for by applications fees, they are actually borne by the government. That also includes detaining more people for longer periods of time, also very costly and the cost of deportation not to mention possible more in entitlement programs for families affected by this.

Yeah I heard about the $585M price tag but really that's paid for through application fees. So far expecting over one million applicant from what I've read and price the fee is expected to be around $500. Now, that's something the applicant is paying. If, however, the cost was borne solely by the government, you have to look at the implications of deporting all these people.

Also, looking at it from an economic standpoint, there are limited resources and unlimited wants. When you think about opportunity cost, Obama's plan makes sense.

I'm sure you can't at all blame those who voted for them or the people in charge. After all, those who are undocumented are ineligible to vote. Dick Durbin is a great person who works for Americans and real people, not corporations. which by the way, are not also people.
