Nick came into our room and laid across his bed.I would ask what's wrong,but I already knew.I saw the news when I came inside to relax.I was going to text Demi to warn her about it just as Nick walked in.The room was filled with awkward silence.I was looking for something to say when he spoke.
"You still love her,don't you?" he asked.
Well,duh.
"Bro---" I started.
"Please just answer the question?"
"Yeah,I do...but I didn't mean for all that to happen," I said quickly.
He gave a slight smile,"It's okay."
"It's what?"
"It's okay," he repeated. "I knew mine and Demi's relationship wouldn't last long."
-Demi-
I was pacing back and forth in my hotel room.What did this mean? Were Nick and I over?
I didn't mean to hurt him.I never thought it would get this bad between the three of us.I wanted to call him,but I didn't know what the situation was between him and Joe.
-Joe-
I stared at the carpet. "Nick...maybe you should talk to her."
I couldn't believe I was saying it.I was telling him to go fix things and let her explain about today.I don't know why I was doing it.I should be thrilled they were more than likely over.
He shook his head. "I think it's obvious that even if we did work it out...our relationship would still feel like a brother/sister relationship."
Instead of jumping for joy like I normally would...I frowned.I caused Demi so much heart ache and when she finally finds someone that can make her smile again,I screw it up.
-Demi-
I took in a deep breath and almost knocked on Joe's and Nick's door when it suddenly opened. Joe and I stood face-to-face.I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out.Nick stood behind him.I waited for one of them to tell me that neither of them wanted anything to do with me.That's what I was expecting anyways,but none of us said anything.Nick pushed Joe towards me a little and whispered,"Go on."
"What's going on?" I asked.
Nick smiled. "Dems,Joe wants to marry you."
"Shut up,Nick!" he hissed.
I was confused; was it a joke or was it real?
"He's just kidding," Joe said.
Relief and disappointment washed through me at the same time.I'd marry Joe if he asked...but he wasn't.
-Joe-
Before we opened the door and saw Demi, Nick told me that no one was to blame for how messy things had gotten.And that being with Demi means everything to me,so he was going to back off.
Honestly,I was happy,but I also felt guilty.Nick really liked Demi.
I was going to talk to her when we found her outside the door.
Nick was laughing after he joked about me wanting to marry her,so I pushed him inside and closed the door. I wasn't opposed to getting married to her-I planned on it someday-but for now,I just wanted to start over.
Demi raised an eyebrow,"Everything's okay?"
I nodded. "Is everything okay with you?"
"I guess so." she laughed lightly.
"Um," I scratched the back of my head,"so..."
"Joe, I think we should talk about where we go from here," she said.
"Yeah,we should definitely do that."
"What do you think should happen?" she asked softly.
Honestly? I want to be with her again.
"I don't know." I said,"What do you think?"
I prepared myself for what she said next.Her words slammed into my chest like a ton of bricks.
