On June 20, 2008, Councilmember Angela Hunt rode with a City of Dallas sanitation crew to learn more about their working conditions. These men have a hard, but very necessary job. They work in the heat, cold, and rain, and many of their shifts last longer than twelve hours. They work diligently to make sure our city is clean.
Currently, the men who work on the back of the truck and pick up the garbage -- many of them long-time Sanitation Department employees -- earn only minimum wage. Angela believes this is unfair, and that they should earn at least a "living wage" in order to support their families.
The city of Dallas DOES tell citizens to cut the brush or face fines. But not the wealthy.

Angela Hunt is my council member. She is the only one who will stand up to the rest of the council members and the "Mayor" in favor of the employees and the middle class and poor citizens of Dallas. As a result, the mayor has banned her from holding the position as chairman of any of the committees. He calls her down in the meetings for disagreeing with him. If a citizen comes before the council to state an opinion, he/she is escorted out if he/she disagrees with the mayor.

Cool, you had me there...LOL!
Just messing with ya though.
I just found this vid last night and was shocked that these guys only get min wadge!
I guess all the elitist politicians in this city eat up all the budget so the workers who maintain the infrastructure get screwed!
Sounds like this place needs more than just a ride along with the garbage haulers, it need to reevaluate it's priorities entirely!

In Long Beach, Ca. the city collects refuse and besides keeping the allys in much better shape, they pay the drivers and the loaders much more than minimum wadge!
This is hard labor and if you don't take care of these kind of workers, it just shows that you are not taking your city's infrastructure seriously...

Here in my city they quit using the alleys over 20 years ago.But they the city should tell citizens to cut the brush or face fines. And pay those guys more money.Breathing that funk all day is grounds for a raise allready..
