  • This is a very good depiction of what a track day is like. imperfect trajectories, indecision. :) I've only had one so far. Rear tyre almost gone in one day heheh. Track days are expensive! :D

  • What bike you riding?

Very different lines from a lot of people, makes it' iffy when you come up on a slower group. Couple of ACU licence holders made it fun though!

  • But the faster you go, the more the bikes chooses the lines for you heheh

  • If you want to look at lines and try to copy them to improve your own riding, you're better off watching World Superbike or British Superbike, Motogp bikes have a very different line to a road based bike.

It's far more common for someone to try and apex too early instead of too late, I'd say later is safer than early as you're less likely to run wide into uncoming traffic. (on the road obviously)

  • No it's definitely my mate Colin on his R1

  • where and how did you mount the camera? did you use the rubber strap that comes with it? any ideas on how to strap it to a helmet since the rubber strap is long enough?

  • The cam was mounted on the flat bit of the fairing above right hand engine mount. I used the flat plastic plate, with some servo tape, it's heavy duty double sided tape ued for mounting servos in model cars, you can get it online or, some mtor factor have it, then I over lapped the plate wirh gaffer tape, mounted the camera, did a quick vid, to make sure it was straight and then strapped the velcro strap around it for added sercurity. The mount survived speeds up to 150 mph with no problems.

  • your mate needs a few lessons

he sticks his knee out to corner but leans his upper body the opposite way

  • But thanks for the tip. It makes perfect sense. I just didn't have WSBK footage for this track specifically. It was at Estoril. When you watch a motoGP or even WSBK footage after a track-day you really get even more amazed with it :)). That is fast! heheh

  • You're right about the traffic !!! I never approach the apex unless I have full visibility, when there's not, I usually leave a tremendous security margin.. Luckily I got some scares driving my car before I started to ride bikes :)). What happened on the track was that, every time I was approaching a corner with all that speed at which I wasn't accustomed. I didn't have the right timing and always ended up missing the right spot to close in, which resulted in loosing speed to correct myself :)

  • but you're right about the trajectories, they depend sometimes on the rider, you can enter a corner quickly and exit slower or vice-versa thus having different lines.

  • I'm not saying I race on the road, but just that I start cornering too late :)

  • Although I brake acceptably, I delay the entry of the corner too much. I later found out when comparing to motoGP onboard footage. I also do that on the road and have been trying to correct it lately heheheh. One thing that completely freaked me out was when I was passed by another rider on the track. I almost panicked heheh because at that speed I was affraid he would crash against me because I was already on my limit. :))

  • heheh, that's right!

I'm riding an 08 Fireblade. I tend to try to imitate the motogp trajectories (which I watch a lot) but What I've noticed as soon as I hit the first corner is that it's much more complex than it looks on TV because of all the speed you carry. I was following an instructor all the time. He was faster on the bends but waited for me on the straights :)) Later in the day, I was going as fast as I could without crashing. But I've observed later that I approach the apex too late
