Michael Amar and Rajib Ullah say they feel cheated.

For years, they were sold lottery tickets from Loto-Quebec -- but say the tickets had no chance of winning.


They believe the "extra" option on some types of Loto-Quebec tickets is fixed, and hope to prove it in court.


It all began last year.


The Montreal friends noticed something peculiar.


Every time they bought more than two "Extra" numbers on their lottery ticket, the first row of numbers never duplicated and neither did the last row.


They went to store after store and bought dozens of tickets -- always with the same result.


"Why is Loto Quebec selling numbers that have no chance to winning?...They're using an amalgarithm that is called a 'lockout mechanism'," said Amar.


The two alledge the company is willingly stealing money out of the pockets of Quebecers.


"It's a lottery company that is selling losing numbers," said Ullah.


The pair is suing Loto-Quebec for $10 million each in punitive damages -- and they're representing themselves.


On Tuesday, Global News decided to do an unscientific test to see if Amar and Ullah's theory checked out.


Reporter Paola Samuel went to a randomly chosen convenience store and bought a Lotto Max an purchased10 Extras ("Extras" are extra numbers).


When Samuel examined the ticket, the same thing had happened with the first and last rows -- no repeat numbers.


The 10 Extras were randomly given to Samuel by a Loto-Quebec machine.


According to a mathematician that Amar and Ullah consulted, the chances of that happening are 186 billion to one.


Montreal lawyer Patric Besner said it will be up to the pair to prove their argument in court.


Amar and Ullah are confident they have a case -- and will next appear in court in August.

meaning if you take 10 extra , each number of the first and last row wont ever match (if you take 10 then you will have 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0 somewhere for the first and last row...no chance of geting 2-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0 or something similar)
