Who could fail to be moved by this. Richard and Carol were SUCH good friends, Carol did well to get through this tribute without bursting into tears earlier. God Bless You, Richard. We all still miss you.

i feel sorry for Countdown to lose the man that they known for Countdown for 23 years and i did not know he had died in 2005 because sadly i did not know him. because i used to not watch countdown because i thought it was boring when i was 4 or 10 years old. i now watch it now but now it's still going full speed with out the man in the chair for 23 years. and he will be terribly missed R.I.P Richard whiteley (28 December 1943 - 26 June 2005) (aged 61).

You can see she's still in shock and it's so moving to watch. She had been at the hospital less than 24hrs before when Richard passed away I believe, and I suspect this either went out live or recorded very shortly before broadcast, and I doubt she had got much sleep the previous night either in the circumstances.
It a sign of how integral to countdown Richard was that three men have tried to fill his shoes and all have resigned after a very short time in the chair.
RIP Twice Nightly x

Watching countdown now isn't the same. Carol and Richard were Mr and Mrs Countdown. He was a legend, that made his hometown of Bradford proud of him R.I.P Richard. Still missed :-(

It's hard to believe that it's been 5 years.

I used to watch Countdown almost every day. He was a joy to watch and the show isn't the same without him. This was very sad to watch, especially the 'the clock stopped too soon' part. It really did. RIP.
what does she mean by the clocks stopped too soon
