Here's an interesting game I decided to upload a little gameplay vid of, as I couldn't find any here on the Tube.

It's pretty well made, especially for being from '89. Just look at the in-doors part (where you move around in third-person view)! It may not be too easy on the eyes, but we didn't get to see much of that, not even in the 5 years to come. It was... scarce, to say the least. Pseudo-3D in the way of Eye of the Beholder was incredibly popular back then. At least you actually got to move around freely this way, so it must've been absolutely amazing to anyone who got it around the time it was released.

This game was very ahead of its time in that aspect, I must say.

Oh, and it had a b-e-a-utiful cover:

  • Thanks for uploading this - I'm going through a DOS action game renaissance lately and I had no idea this game existed. Which is scandalous because I'm a pretty big spaz for Thexder and Thexder-likes.

I'm guessing you ran this in DOSbox - was there a trick to it? I can load it up fine but when it asks me to create a user disk I get antsy ... I'm sort of worried it will format my C drive. Thought I'd run it past you before I do anything stupid. What did you do?

  • @fraudcakes No problem.

Anyways, I can't remember exactly what I did, it's been over a year (wow). But as long as you have C mounted as a directory (for example C:\games\) you should be more than fine! Also, should any errors occur after you've done that (namely a blank screen), check out this link-...hmph, nevermind. YouTube doesn't let me post links. I'll PM it.

  • I played wibarm and liked it a lot. Infact my Youtube id is Wibarm.

  • Haha, yeah. Noticed.

    That's awesome.

  • This game was a decade ahead of its time: a third-person shooter action RPG with fully 3D polygonal graphics, an automap feature, multiple weapons, etc. It's amazing that a 1986 game (the PC-8801 version, later ported to MS-DOS in 1989) had all these features before they became popular in the late 90s.

The game's creator Arysis Software also created the first 3D polygonal first-person shooter RPG in 1988, Star Cruiser, also a decade ahead of its time. It's a shame Arysis are so unknown today.

  • I love wibarm still one of my favs old dos games its just a classic gem. Was so lucky my dad had it he still does the orignal disc and even the copy protection sheet i think he even has the master code for the end game on the backing of the copy protection (its in a protective sleve the paper is with a hard back) ahhh memories of disk swaping.
