It has absolutely nothing to do with our Space Program which is fantastic. Stop demeaning the 10s of thousands of men that worked on the Apollo, Gemini, and Mercury programs who did fly to space, and did LAND on the moon...

Another one of the biggest challenges in getting a crew to Mars and back is coming up with a way to create and store the hundreds of meals that it will take to keep the astronauts fed for the long duration of the trip. There was a big article about it in the LA Times last month. Too bad we can't be put in suspended animation like they did on Planet Of The Apes. heheheh.

as for why we havent yet gone to Mars: politics. NASA is not one big happy group of scientists. There've always been bitter struggles b/w different groups w/ unique agendas. The shuttle can't get us to Mars. The ORION will. Bone and muscle loss and other physiology needs to be sussed out b4 we snd ppl 2 space for 2.5 years.
