To me, Christmas would not be the same without this movie...

When my father was young (born in 1943), he convinced his grandmother to get him a Red Rider BB Gun. His cousin had the gun and was playing gangster. He let off a shot that whizzed so close to my father's face, it broke his glasses, nearly shooting his eye out! They lied about how the glasses got broken, because if she knew, she'd take the gun. He laughs every time he sees this scene. He says he remembers drinking Ovaltine too and listening to that show Ralphie loved on the radio.

I totally agree; in fact, you might not know this, but prior to 1995, when Turner Broadcasting began airing a 24-hour marathon of this movie, "A Christmas Story" never aired later than Thanksgiving weekend on cable; if you wanted to watch the movie on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, you would have had to go out and either have bought or rented the movie from a video store or K-Mart, Wal Mart, etc.
