  • i feel like a big douche cause theres a picture of me with him on mapex's homepage.

  • You were there? wow, i'd like to hear more about it from from you being someone who was really there. their drum battle was not on the vhs and im assuming not on the dvd. will you friend me please so we can chat?

  • Nice fucking skills and groove.

  • so is the battle on the dvd?

I actually went to the concert back in 91 and guess i should get the dvd. all i remember is peart resorting to his cross sticking thingy during the battle with calhoun. Half the people waiting in line were wearing rush t-shirts. And the Peart-worshipers were being very rude shouting for neil the whole time. 15 years with gruber and neil still has no feel. (and yes i am a rush fan too-i flew to NY just to see the show)

  • Calhoun (and don't get me wrong I love the guy) played unfairly and broke all the unwritten rules of drum battling. For one, when you battle you both get your equal turns and trade off drumming. Out of respect and good sportsmanship each drummer lets the other do their thing until its their turn again. Calhoun constantly cut Peart off and wouldn't let him play- at all. At least what I have read from people in the audience. So of course he was probably angry.

  • What no one knows is what exactly happened during that drum battle. Since it was cut from the VHS that was released, only people in attendance could make comments on what happened.

  • Incidentally, I grew up worshipping Living Colour. I used to write them fan letters and send them tapes of me trying (and failing) to play guitar like Vernon. I tracked down bootlegs, and Vernon's pre-LC work (Decoding Society, Smash/Scatteration disc, etc). I grew up digging the hell out of Calhoun -- I've just learned a lot about drums since then and have changed my opinion of him.

  • Yes, I play music, and I'm just making an observation.

  • My favorite musician, Stanley Jordan, is black. Other favorites: Tommy Campbell, Charnett Moffett, Billy Cobham ... all black. As for Neil Peart -- he's a great rock drummer. But that's it. He's no Billy Cobham.

  • do you even play music? If you do you should know that music is not a compettion.
