The truth is they were. In 1178 3000 Christians in the city of Jerusalem were slaughtered by the Sekjuk Turks fighting the Byzantine Empire. After this, any Christians who came to Jerusalem were slaughtered and publicly humiliated. In 1096, Pope Urban commissioned the crusades thus escalating the violence in and around Jerusalem until in 1099 Christian forces secured Jerusalem.

Not to mention the fact that the pope promised remission of sin to all those who embarked on the Crusades, and the Church taught it was the only way to Heaven.

Theres plenty of parts of the bible which actually say to kill all nonbelievers etc.

@RichardRoy2 Was just thinking about your last statement, "pick which side you're on." it gives a whole new value to the bible as a social director. If you want to justify anything at all, you can do it with the bible. That might make a great marketing gimik for the rulers. In fact, I think it's already implied and in place.

@malignantpoodle Indeed. You'll get no argument from me on that. I value people who work toward keeping the record straight. Thanks.

Let's pretend for a moment the bible is an actual authority and can justify such things.
Christians had better remember Romans 13 when Kim Jong Ill launches his nukes. Because I'm sure "Bear the sword" applies to more than just swords.
And while we are at it, the "God has instituted" the Grand Ayatollah of Iran, and Sadam Hussain, and every other despicable leader.
So, OK, the bible justifies the Crusades, but it just hurts the case for Christianity anyway, so good luck getting them to own it.

@malignantpoodle I'm sorry for having used the term "obsession". It was not referred to you. You've made a very good point in this vid. It's our media who always talk about "crusades" as it were a symbol of aggression, while instead they were one of many mutual campaigns of those times. It's a complete different issue from the one you're talking about in this vid, anyhow.
you should read Saint Bellarmine justification for killing heretics. It made it quite compelling from the scriptural point of view. In any case it's quite strange this cultural obsession against crusades nowadays. On the historical point of view they were quite comprehensible. Just an episode in 400 years of mutual aggression between islam and christianity. From the taking over of Palermo and the klling of all his inhabitants (Sicily, in 832 AD) to the 1683 siege of Wien

@italianchappy
I wouldn't call it so much an obsession with the crusades, not for me anyway. But time and time again Christians try to point out that the crusades were not a product of their religion, kind of like holocaust deniers and 9/11 was an inside job people.

Now the big question; do you believe in God?

@RichardRoy2
Nope. See my other videos.

@malignantpoodle Ok, then I didn't understand your attempt to justify the cruisades via scripture. I'm presuming you're using irony?

@RichardRoy2
Many Christians say that the Crusades cannot be justified by the bible. I provide evidence to the contrary. The Crusades among other negative things, are very much inspired by scripture.
