This is a video of the basic flower sweep done without the gi on. The biggest point is how you go about trapping your opponent's arm when establishing the sweeping position

  • i just use an overhook on the left side

  • @ThOutRider2 An overhook for the flower sweep is not as effective in my opinion because in a live roll...most people will still have the ability to post a little.

  • nice job!

  • @spinavepradlo Thanks

  • If you have the arm across the body, why not cross-body armbar for a quick finish? aka armbar from guard.

  • The armbar is a valid option and definitely there however many people look to defend that right away so a sweep is a good alternative.

Also many people would prefer to be on top (like myself at the moment) and would rather sweep.

  • @jasculs you're probobly right, but its just easier for me to get an overhook than to get his arm across like you did and it still works well with the overhook, so thats just the option that i choose, ya know, but yours is more effective and a bit more advanced.

  • @TheHardout2005 fake the sweep to set up a triangle.. or fake the armbar to go for the sweep, etc. You gotta set the submission up with a solid offense so they defend into the next submission in the flow of "Lock-Flow" series of body movements. Just going right for the submission, especially against advanced players, could lead to a guard pass or more. You gotta threaten the danger to lead to the real positions or submissions that you're looking for.

  • they should call it the armbar sweep, that makes way more sense

  • fuck..all i hear is 2 people talking over each other,retarded.

  • If I were to arm-drag, then I would just take the back. You can effectively do this sweep with wrist control and posting off his hip to dive for his leg.

  • @ITzBruJiN

I seem to be having that problem with higher ranked belts indeed, no idea what the problem is though??!

  • I've tried this. When you do the armdrag and escape your hip out to your left, I think it's harder to sweep them than if I don't escape the hip so much. I would preferably have my hip as much directly under him or at the other side (the side I'm sweeping from) as I can. If I do this, I'm not in my own way when doing the sweep. This is especially important when trying to sweep larger opponents.

What do you think of this, any thoughts??
