When your in config-line mode, you can issue a "do show run" so you do not have to exit to global just to see the running config.

@XtR0pX after you type "VLAN 2" you have to press enter. only after you are in the specified VLAN will you be able to type the "name CORE" command.

So whenever I try to create a VLAN (like type conf t, vlan 2 name CORE, or just simply vlan 999 for creating a parking lot) I get % Invalid input detected at '^' marker. Any insight as to what is going on here. I have given my switch and IP address and a host name.
