Why the Last Video?

I should've really explained myself better. I didn't post that last video just as a rant about my mom. I posted it because I want to always remember what not to do with my kids. It's all for me so I can learn from past mistakes. I'll also be posting things she did right, as well.

Was I the one person you thought received your last video poorly? Because I didn't mean for it to come off that way. It just seemed like something that could be discussed more deeply and YouTube comments "### characters remaining" probably limited my ability to use a proper vernacular while doing so as to avoid coming off sounding disagreeable.

Part deux again... I am a parent myself... and the only particular thing I remember being a consistent problem with my upbringing was that, while I was appropriately sheltered at first, it seemed that those limits were not gradually removed as I grew older and matured as they should have been and I'm quite intent on making certain that I don't do that with my son. Oh... and the "because I said so" thing was lame, I intend to explain things to him rather than respond that way.

@ZanasoYBayncuh My parents also made those mistakes. I hated "because I said so" because I could always see through the flaw in their idea and that's why I wanted an explanation. And "because I said so" was merely a scapegoat for them not really having a reason that made sense. Sometimes I wondered if my mom was really sure what was going on or if she was a total idiot.

@GoNoAMMo I HAVE had to use a "because I said so" in a situation where my six year old could not possibly understand the explanation at length... or once because I had tried explaining it before. But I sincerely hope that the phrase falls into disuse as he ages. I've heard the whole "I don't need to have a reason" thing before, but understanding makes things a lot smoother, and parents regularly underestimate the good that understanding the situation could bring about later.

@PicasOhBoy My brothers never got the treatment I did, and sadly don't see the favoritism in the fact that they weren't sheltered at all or force pushed into anything like my mom did for me. They completely ignore all signs of favoritism or injustice. My father, when he was around, took my side on a lot of things and told my mom to just let me be me, because he saw that I was responsible and intelligent enough to make my own decisions. But he was a musician, and as such was rarely home.

Saw your fathers day video. Sorry for your loss. What did he do while your mom was telling you no to everything? How do your brothers feel about any of this?
