@dhfun1 - my partner introduced this movie to me in the mid 90s. I, too, found it particulary cerebral. But, I fell in love with it.

It's like Elizabethan minstrel songs meets... "The Safety Dance"
When I heard this song in the DVD Menu I was like "wtf?" but then remembered the movie takes you up to the present day. So it was with a great deal of anticipation I pressed 'Play'. And wow, this song made it one of the most moving happy-endings I'd ever seen in a film.
AND Sally Potter herself does backing vocals in it. =-)

Lovely song! Woolf's novel of the same name is her long love letter to the poetic family--Sackville Wests--through the centuries, culminating with Vita Sackville-West .

@Damselfred same thing here!

A film that's unlike any other. As to this song, I still listen to it once or twice a month.

Back in ’93 after she saw this movie, my wife casually and cunningly induced me to watch it. As the movie progressed, my puzzlement grew and grew as I attempted to figure out what was supposed to be taking place in it. My wife was surreptitiously watching me out of the corner of her eye when the girl unexpectedly and bizarrely transformed into a guy. She told me later that she could not stop laughing because of the look on my face the instant that action occurred onscreen.

I am not taken to swearing but when that happened I was so stunned that I just started blathering stuff like, “What the fuck just happened?!! Huh?!! What the fuck is going on with this fucked-up movie? Did you spike my drink with LSD? What the fuck is this shit? I have never seen shit like this. Jesus, what is going on?!! Are you trying to mind fuck me?!” She simply laughed uproariously through my entire rant.

this is my absolute most favorite song since I've seen the movie the first time back in the 90s. Nice tribute video!
