Graduation day for Platoon 1016 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC on September 30, 1969. The two graduating Marines are Paul Wilson and Kermit Pannell together with their families. The Senior Drill Instructor for Platoon 1016 was SSgt L.M. Mosley and the Assistant DI's were SSgt G.W. Tomlin, Sgt R.G. Kiss and Sgt H.J. Freville.

  • I also graduated with 'Sweet 16' SSgt Mosley was a big dude - Tomlin and Freville were ADI along with Sgt Kiss - I think we were the only platoon with 4 DIs.. Al Gentzler - USMC 1969 - 1977 Semper Fi my brothers!

  • Viewing this old film of PI brought back some remarkable memories! I was in plt. 1034 when this was filmed, my plt. might have been one of the plt's. marching by. Myself and most of the plt. went on to nam,where they are today only God and themselfs know. Thanks for the memories! SEMPER- FI, Brothers!!!!

  • I forgot to add that Sgt. Kiss was one of the meanest DIs I know of but he also taught us a lot. Being mean was his job and he did it well.

  • It's sad, a lot of these guys probably didn't make it through Vietnam. It's good to see that they had a few more proud, happy moments with their families before they shipped out.
