My first ever blog. The subject of my blogs is my personal experiences of being a British atheist in the liberal US state of California.

  • I was wondering why atheists think science and Christianity needs to be debated. I know lots of Christians who are scientists. There doesn't appear to be difficulties with either to me. Thanks

  • @fraggib Thanks for your comment. Yes I agree, there are many scientists who are Christians (or other religions) and see no conflict between their beliefs and their science. However, there are also Christians with tremendous power and influence are trying to get creationism taught in science class, or even to remove evolution teaching from science class altogether. Whilst that remains the case, there will always be a reason to discuss religion and science together.

  • @AtheistBrit Thank you for your comment. The issue here is belief not science. I know this because debating evolution verses creation ends in a circular argument which is a waste of time and counter-productive. People need to come to their own conclusions on evolution or creationism. Truth can never come from those who can shout the loudest.

  • @fraggib I appreciate your reply. :) Your comment would be true if it weren't for the fact that evolution is not based on belief but on science, and creationism is not based on science but on belief. The two are entirely separate yet some groups of fundamentals are trying to push the two together as if there's some sort of validity to creationism as valid science.

  • @AtheistBrit - Sorry but evolution is a belief. There is no science to remotely suggest that one species evolved into another. Therefore it is belief of atheists. If I am wrong prove it with scientific evidence!

  • @fraggib Science *has* proven you wrong with scientific evidence for the past 150 years. Vestigial organs, embryology, genetics and inheritance, the "tree" of life, bacterial antibiotic resistance, transitional fossils, and a very well documented series of human ancestors all support evolution. Evolution underpins the entirety of modern biology. The vaccines you had as a child - work on the principle of evolution by natural selection. Read any scientific journal for the proof you're asking for.

  • You have such a unique perspective! (and of course I love your accent, too!) Keep up the good vids :-)

  • If someone has a problem with your belief then who cares what they think. Anyone that looks down on you for thinking differently doesn't deserver your friendship. I jump at the chance to get into a debate with people on science and religion.

  • @Rickyballon Hi - I was wondering why you think science and say Christianity needs to be debated. I know lots of Christians who are scientists. There doesn't appear to be difficulties with either to me. Thanks

  • @Rickyballon - Hi, Why do you think that science contradicts Christianity for instance?

  • New England is a lot more liberal than the west coast. Its just a button-downed kind of liberalism.

  • @Rickyballon Thank you! :)
