Yeah, I went and saw the new Mighty Atom movie. I also cut it some slack. I don't consider this a "true review", as it is more or less aimed at fans of the series. I also don't reveal anything about the plot, because that'll just ruin most of the movie for new fans.

Astro Boy (the 2009 re-imagining) pretty much covers the origins of Astro, from being Tobio, to being with Hamegg and...eventually his father, Tenma, again? Wait a second, that isn't right, what has happened here. Oh, right...it isn't the original story.

It may be a family friendly movie aimed mainly at children for the Summer Break (I presume? I don't live in the U.S.), but that doesn't make it bad, does it? Well, not unless you're going to be a tight-arsed fanboy about it.

Enjoy the mini-review, and go watch the movie.

  • Tezuka's very 1st manga and anime... Awesome indeed, but the movie was okay, I wish it would have stick to the original story line. Some parts of the movie was great. I think it's suppose to be kid friendly. That's what happens when amaricans make their own version of Japanese originals. Other than that. I loved the movie, it's had a lot of funny bits in it.

  • @o01tuyet10o Well, Astro Boy was kid friendly as well. However, it was kid friendly for a completely different time that had completely different standards.

  • Now that the film has flopped, do you think imagi will survive?

  • Probably not.

  • I watched the movie recently and yeah, Tenma was far from the Magnificent Bastard that he was in the 03 series or the unaccepting father from the 80's. Elefun washardly there, and the new characters were unoriginal.

Aside from that, it was great, and there's a lot of easter eggs around. Just to name a few, that scene when Astro learns to fly, he drills his way through a mountain just like in the opening of the 60's anime; one of the scientists looks like Tezuka's avatar,Hamegg final costume etc.

  • @soraheart Let's just say it would have probably turned out better, and maybe have actually been an original story (rather than a retelling).

  • @soraheart Yeah, I think a lot of people not really familiar with Astro would have been wondering what those black underpants and boots were about, considering they only show up twice in the movie (I believe it was only twice).

I'd say he was probably in his original costume originally, but then he was "covered up" to deter the "filty paedophiles".

  • Best Review I've seen^.^ Love the movie and anime!

  • Well, the movie has yet to be released to a lot of other countries. Plus there are DVD sales to consider (I know I'm buying one!) It may yet make a profit. I really feel sorry for people who haven't seen it yet. They don't know what they're missing.

  • my only gripes for the movie were that it wasn't as grungy as it was supposed to be and dr. elefun didnt play much of a role
