1973 yamaha 360 enduro converted to 6hp diesel. A comet torque converter is the next thing to go on.

On modern engines yes but many older types ( Petters are a good example ) and some semi diesels thet were case scavanged for simplicity. Search Youtube here for some of the older Petter Atomics and marine Semis and you can see what I mean

No gear it a belt drive converter with diffrent speed (LIKE SNOW MACHINE)

how many gears does it have?
Not all some are case scavanged. They are rare to find and usualy old low speed.
