You can make the goal bone the toes'/foot's parent then add an IK solver to the shin to point it at the foot. Then once the chain length is 2 add a duplicate of the femur right in front of it and make the femur track to it to eliminate "chicken leg." This is how I do it but good tutorial.

@iluvme4never oh, nevermind, i figured it out.

how do you keep the bones from moving on the x-axis? whenever i try to move the leg with the ik target, the bone moves all over the place instead of just forward and up.
-
why did i have to name the bones?

Doo you parent your mesh to the armature...??
Select mesh shift select mesh; ctrl P make parent select armature... And for a start try create bone from bone heat. But before you doo that bee shure too uncheck deform on your controler bones!
Have a nice day!

hey thanks XD I got it now ^_^ it's my first time rigging and I keep getting stuck XP but I got all the bones to work right now ^_^ thanks X3
Hey, I have a problem: When I move the leg to do a simple walk cycle, the knee would bend normally like it's supposed to but then it would snap back and bend the wrong way like a chickens' leg. What am I doing wrong???

@Landofjello have you added some segments to the Femur and Shin bone? If so have you played with the in and out functions? I've encountered that problem lots of times, doing that usually fixes the problem you described. try that and let my know.

how do u get the bones to bend?
CoolGirlJill 2 years ago
In the bone properties, (where you set the number of segments for twining and "bending" Note: you need segments in order to get the bend, if there are no segments it will remain straight) to the right of the segment adjuster, there are to feilds called "IN" and "OUT," the defult number is zero, simply increase the number to a figure higher than zero on both feilds-thus you have the bending effect. Hope this was helpfull

This is super helpful, I definitely will need this information when i make a character, but one problem is that they must have changed the shortcut to make an IK goal, (Ctrl+I) to something else, because when I use it (v2.48a) it will perform the same function as the "A" key. what keys or button do i push in 2.48a?

If that doesn't work then try SHIFT-i
