Thanks to Rudolf for this Honky Chateau LP! This is a brief snippet of the album after 2 cleans. Obviously this album has been "well-loved" by its pre-Rudolf owner, but still sounds dynamic, even though the surface is rather noisy. Musically, the Scissor Sisters have a lot to thank Elton John for - they nicked a lot of his chord progressions, as this LP (and Saturday Night's All Right...from GYBR) proves!

  • Hi Mark, I hope your Holidays were great! They were in Arizona! I have a copy of Honky Chateau also, good album. My cover is a bit rough but the vinyl is excellent. Do you know anything about the "live" double album that was released in 1976 when all thought that Elton was retired from his live performing career? It was released by on the Pickwick label. The first album is a recording live for radio in 1971 in NYC.The second was live in London.A very excellent collection. Let me know. Thanks

  • @spydey550 I don't know very much about Elton. I was sent this LP as a present and I have a couple of the others, including a GH and GYBR. I don't really care for all the remasters et al. For me Elton belongs on LP and cassette, end of. My cover for this is also slightly well-loved. I'm sorry I don't know about the Live album you refer to.

  • whats the crackling?

  • @MarshMellowChronic I think this LP has been er..."well-loved"!

  • Some songs released by the Scissor Sisters also had Elton John as a writing accomplice (co-writer).

  • Hopefully the 3 star rating was not to do with the sound quality, which does improve after it's been on YT for a while. Also it's much better in HD, whose button appears once the processing is finished.

  • I Just set up my VPI Scout with a Shelter 901 modded by Sound Smith and this was the First thing I played on it What a fantastic sounding album.

  • I have some great news for you, Mark! I got an Elton John "Madman Across the Water" LP today, original UK pressing by Dick James Music (not a 1980's reissue with the half-yellow half-black label, but black background with the DJM "record" logo), but housed inside the sleeve of a 1980's Canadian-manufactured reissue by MCA Records. That completes my Elton John "classic period" collection - just needed one LP, and that LP I got... today! Just for the record, I already have "Honky Chateau".

  • excellent

  • "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" and "Intermission".

  • Not too bad for a 1971 album! Out of all places I bought this LP from a School Fete Stall!

  • I believe three stars indicates "Worth watching".
