Only My Heart (collab with Ron Ireland & Jimmy Halliday)

THE MUSIC: When I first heard Ron's beautiful song, ''Only My Heart,'' I was completely swept away! Ron first began writing this song as a sort of word play ... and then the song took on an entirely unexpected form and meaning as the chorus built. I believe that! This song is magic, Ron! Your music is so intensely personal and immediate. And ''Only My Heart'' perfectly captures my feelings about life right now.

THE FLYING: Jimmy Halliday began skydiving when he was only 16 years old. He took his first jump as a tandem skydive with his dad on Father's Day in 1989, and he has been freefalling ever since. Jimmy is an aerial photographer without peer, and his many publications, videos, still images and credits can be found on his web site.

As this video developed, I realized that I didn't have all the images needed to convey the feelings evoked by Ron's song. So I began looking for flight images and in the process met Jimmy Halliday from Cloverdale, California. Jimmy generously gave permission for the use of his brilliant aerial images which begin in this video at 2:59.

They are self confident, able to totally focus, and they have the ability to live completely in the moment. They also have a unique appreciation for life and an independent nature that is at once solitary and extroverted. They are irresistible to those of us who have always dreamed of flying. I don't think my heroes, Bob Dylan and Emmylou, would have made it big in today's market - the discovery question seems largely moot today. People such as Ron (and indeed, you, dear friend) write and sing for the joy of it and because they cannot keep it contained. I love birds for the same reason that I love true musicians: You just can't not do your thing and you just gotta keep it in the air. Hugs, Suze
