  • I'm a blues guitarist with Barbados heritage. I was the guitarist for the soca band Coalishun in 1995 as well. I have told my blues friends in the States that Mighty Sparrow is the B.B. King of calypso. My Barbadian father has compared Sparrow with Shakespeare in his ability to use Caribbean dialect with rhythm and rhyme to tell a story.

  • I like Calypso and Mento..... the latter much influenced later Jamaican music..... eg Rough Rider - Prince Buster was a Mento tune......... Unfortunately for Calypso and Soca tradition seems to make it reluctant to put a strong bass into their tunes...... sadly I feel this is what sidelines it....... until that day.... carnival and party and not the world dancefloors will be were it gets air play.........

  • The best calypsonian in the world.

  • The King of Calypso! Calypso and Soca are most wonderful music. It is a familiar and clear deviation of Kaiso/West Afrikan sounds. You must give props for preserving the Afrikan rootz many generations later. The Mighty Sparrow does have a great voice!

  • One of our heroes.
