  • Sorry for the novel like post, I like to explain things, not just make a random comment. I don't have a problem with Crossfit, they mean well, but some of the lifts they do and the training protocols are just very incorrect and people have been hurt doing it.

If you are looking for crossfit that plays it safe and can still kick your butt, seek out crossfit in Denmark, they really know their stuff.

    Thanks.

  • So take a ball, put it on a dish and move it around real fast, how stable do you think that is? Not much right? When you "kip" with your legs, you produce a-lot of force that is caught by the arms to finish the lift, as you lift the upper body fatigues out well before the lower body, this happens first in the elbows, namely biceps brachii which the Labrum stabilizes. So what do crossfitters do when they are worn out with the upper body? "Kip" harder and that is when the labrum tears.

  • of movement. By "Kipping" you are only recruiting the upper most fibers of this muscle which by structure are already dominant.

    and

    3) Kipping Pull Up puts a heck of a-lot of unnecessary strain on the glenoid labrum and can, has and will tear it. The labrum is what basically holds the humerus to the shoulder joint itself, but because it's not a deep structure socket like your hip and femur joint, it's that much more susceptible to injury, so think of it as a ball on a dish joint.

  • I don't have a problem with the pull up if it's for something specific, but for general strength it's terrible and here is why.

    1) The elbow being a single mover joint is already a weak joint, it needs to be loaded down through a full range of motion, using momentum robs the joint of this.

    2) Builds an imbalance in lat strength. The Lats make up a 3rd of total back muscles, from top to bottom it starts at the base of the scapula and extends down the spine to the hip. It has nearly 8 functions

  • "Kipping Pull Up."

Am I led to believe that this word derives from "K=Kicking I=Hip?"

That is the only thing that makes sense after I thought about it for 2 minutes. Because it's is not a pure pull up when half of the movement is done with kicking the hip into fast extension to flexion, only to have your hip flexors, hamstrings and glutes try and keep the movement going enough so the elbows can pick up the movement half way through.

  • @mrceebees14 It's crossfit man, what do you expect.

  • @LaxSwag31 You are wrong for that, but admittedly I laughed out loud.

  • @LaxSwag31 yep

  • @TeddyGrahamUSMC What's your problem? I was paying her a compliment, calm down.
