This video clip features DefenseReview.com owner/editor-in-chief David Crane loading and firing the SIGARMS SIG 552 Commando Subcarbine/SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) with a GEMTECH silencer/sound suppressor attached in both the semi-auto and full-auto firing modes at SWAT Round-Up 2002 in November 2002. David Crane was one of the first civilians in the country to test-fire this weapon/silencer combo. He subsequently wrote about it, here:

The 552 is great gun, perhaps even my favorite 5.56 SBR. However, by the time I got to test-fire it, I guess I was a little flinchy from having fired a bunch of full-auto guns already. That's why you can see the muzzle dip down a little bit when I attempt to take the first shot with the 552. I say 'attempt' because I didn't realize they'd handed me the weapon with it on safe [safety on]. They were of course correct in handing it to me that way. Anyway, that's why it doesn't fire when I first pull the trigger. A classic mistake. So, I swept the safety off and went to work. The suppressor [GEMTECH sound suppressor] worked really well. The primary sound you hear when I'm firing is the superonic crack of the rounds [bullets] as they leave the muzzle.

  • As you can see the SIG552 with silencer has an additional "commando"-feature. It automatically applies night time dark grey camo paint on you face ;) Using silencer thows all snot into shooters face. Sig552 is "hella laud!" (much lauder than AR) but using silencer kind of defeats the whole point of SIG55x = reliability = gas piston that prevents smoke from fouling the bolt.

"I have this airsoft gun too", except mine uses 5.56N FMJ "pellets" and is powered by gunpowder.

  • I have a question: is it true that some SEALS teams and some other US special forces use (sometime) the SG 552? If they do, well, good choice! I've never seen an 55x series rifle jamming and they're accurate

  • this is a good vid, you could imagen playing a game and shooting this gun

  • Dumbass its not airsoft its a silentser retard

  • when black ops comes out watch your view count sky rocket

  • @hcbstrd Yup and there's an interview I saw back in the day where a SEAL said his favorite field weapon is the 552.

  • BLACK OPS SICKKKK

  • The 552 along with the G36 are weapons I would give my right nut to own. Both of those weapons are some of the best assault rifles to date.

  • @hcbstrd NEGATIVE! None of the SEALS or U.S. Spec-ops type units use the 552. That was originally started by Tokyo Mauri on their box for marketing their airsoft version of the gun. The SEALS still use a Colt M4 and the only other SOCOM weapon being used is the HK-416 by Delta. If you can find a pic of SOCOM troopers ever using them, I'll give you a cookie.

  • Kinda puts me in the mind of the H&K UMP45. The butt-stock and design are the things that popped out to me. It only seems to have a 20rd clip cap however.

  • @filthywalrus Blackhawk Down actors are not SF operators
