@mattg889 Bear in mind that the Fusion has a much larger gas tank (17.5 gallons), so miles per tank is a meaningless figure that marketing can throw around to impress people (not that that Fusion number is anything to sneeze at but it was hardly done in normal daily commute conditions). An SUV can go over 600 miles on a tank too, but you'll be putting 32 gallons of gas in it to do that vs. less than 5 gallons for this Prius-- a 27 gallon, 640% savings, or $2500 at 15k mi./year paying $3.50/gal.

This is with charging it. Try to do what the fusion did and drive over 1400 miles without stopping to charge or refill.

Plus solar companies are working on legislation to force power companies to buy back energy produced by your home/office buildings solar panels. If that takes effect, you could theoretically charge your car with nothing but the panels on your house and on the car. Don't say weather permitting, because this system is already in place in GERMANY. Look it up. Private solar energy production is government funded there. We claim to be leaders but we have been left behind by other countries.

never crossed my mind of wanting a prius, but geez! The prius sounds like it's defiantly worth the money! Crazy

I thought 82 MPG was good in my car, and i suppose it is as my car is not a hybrid, just a turbo diesel.

wow prius cars are good on gas! 100mpg! wow! i drive a 97 corolla 4cyl and i get 25mpg i have to fill up every 14days $42... i thought that was pretty good...

I'm glad you've researched the subject, you're well informed on a subject that seems to breed a lot of idiot comments. Apologies for my cynicism. We all have free choice on what we drive round in, good luck with your choice.
Plugged in and charged from nice clean coal/oil/gas power stations, most power (steam turbine) stations are <50% efficient (about the same as a car) so you're not saving the planet. What does it cost to charge (KW/hours)?

I have the government and independent studies that show that in 49 states there will be a net savings of CO2 by using this system. In one state (South Dakota) there is no net reduction. Also, I'm in Washington where we get our electricity from Hydro (The reports show 88% reduction in CO2 for plug-in hybrids). I pay $0.04KW/h for my recharge. That is as if I was paying $0.50 a gallon for gas.

Can I buy this battery and do the mods myself to make it "plug" in?

I had to have hybrids-plus do the conversion for me. There is a website at eaa-phev(dot)org that claims to have do-it-yourself instructions.

is this car stock or does it have mods to it to get this 99.9 MPG?

It has a plug-in hybrid battery installed. The new battery has about 8 times more storage than the old battery. And, I can charge it up by pluging it in at home or work.
