OMG I can't believe you could say that, clearly not a dressage enthusiast. Steffen Peters is one of the softest riders in the world. The reason his lower leg is so loose is that he rides with LEG OFF, therefore, it may appear to an amateur in posting trot that he is aiding but his leg is loose and moving with the movement. At no point is he spuring the horse. I can assure you that if Steffen was touching his horse up every stride, it would be leaping and bounding all over the place!

Is someone seriously saying that STEFFAN PETER'S position is "amateurish"?!!!?!?! Is that a joke?

This is one of my favorite horse videos ever. :)

this horse is extremely elastic thru the back and the swinging of his back will translate thru the riders seat to his legs....frankly, to "bash" any of our international riders is pointless...when we win our first gold medal then we can be critical, until then...let us not sit in judgement but enjoy the ride....

You should not be continuously bashing the horses sides it makes them dead to the legs , every amateur gets told that, or used to, it seems to e fashionable nowadays to bang the sides with every stride. Its bad riding that's what it is!!

@Tashibaify In dressage, it is a way of "cueing" the horse during a movement. So each tap is to remind or encourage the horse to continue whatever he is doing, as in...canter, canter, still canter, etc.. Scoring is based on doing each movement for a set distance and no more, so starting and stopping cues are very important. Cues are given with the snaffle rein, the curb rein, the seat, the thighs, the calfs, the spurs and sometimes a whip and ones voice. No whip or voice allowed at this level.

steffen rides very amaturishly with his legs, you can really see it in his changes, as he swings a lot to get them. it's just a style of riding, i think it also has to do with how long he keeps his stirrup leathers as well.

not criticising or anything- but how come he keeps banging with his legs? There is quite alot of leg movement. Why is that can anyone explain? Just curious.
He's just trying to keep a sensitive horse calm and in rhythm. Some horses can be over sensitive to the leg and need to be calmed before a competition. Steffan is far from "amaturish".
