Mezzo Joyce DiDonato on CBS New York talking about the MET and its International HD Broadcast, Ariadne auf Naxos, le Comte Ory and her last recording Diva/Divo. In a word, she talks about opera and why it's important :))

  • I was lucky enough to go on a class trip to the opera when I was in third grade and I never forgot it.

  • the dumbass journalist didnt get corrected on how to pronounce mezzo

  • do not worry about Opera fans... as long as there are singers who sing fabulously there will always be fans... audiences deteriorate and stop going to the houses when the singing is bad Also you cannot hook someone in any way if the "virus" of the Love for the great Voice isnt already in his blood.

  • Why are we obsessed with bringing "young" people to classical music? I'm now 18 and I was exposed on my own to opera at 11 because I had stumbled upon on the radio REALLY kids should be able to discover it for themselves b/c if opera tries to accommodate it loses its sparkle =/
