I am very proud of my hometown tonight after attending the Durham (NC) City Council meeting where resolution supporting civil marriage equality for same-sex couples was passed unanimously. In a 7-0 vote, Mayor Bill Bell and council members affirmed marriage equality. While NC does not allow gay and lesbian couples to marry, it is heartening to have the support of your city and our state has turned away, for the sixth time, a state marriage amendment.

  • For the record, I have looked up and saw that the state of North Carolina has proposed this amendment since 2004. Every single year since then it was introduced. When does it end? Just Allow Same-Sex Marriage.

  • Bunch of PERVS!

  • FANTASTIC NEWS! Some day we'll look back on this decision and wonder why it would be any other way.

  • Wonderful, Durham! Thank you for setting an example of civil rights leadership and social justice!

  • Go equal rights!!! God bless us all. :)

  • GO AHEAD NC!

  • that put a smile on my face :)
