[FIPHD] Ashlen: Living with Diabetes

Dee Ann Schippert, BSN RN speaks with Ashlen Portwood concerning Type 1 Diabetes. Ashlen was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 5 years and has had an insulin pump for the last 11 ½ years -- which she received the last day of kindergarten. Ashlen shares her experiences with diagnosis, life as a teenager, school athletics, extra curricular activities and living with Type 1 Diabetes. Ashlen hopes to relate to all children and teens that living with diabetes does not have to interfere with academics, athletics or any other activities that are a normal part of being an active child or teen.
