lol, i feel sorry for this japanese guy. he was being nice to you out of friendship and you were only being friendly to get into his pants!.. he must feel so used!

to be honest i think western men are a lot more reserved than other cultures, so a lot of what is considered normal behaviour to them is considered 'gay' in US/UK etc.

yeah, I think Japanese culture at least is much more "homosocial" than western cultures...the concept of homosexuality doesn't even come up, most of the time, so the behaviors that are "gay" in the west are (as you said) just "normal" here

In China, Taiwan, and Japan, the whole gay thing (while not usually discussed) is not really an issue. In America, men consider certain behaviour effeminate, while in Asia (especially Japan) even the straight guys tend to be feminine (which is actually the human norm. Only America (thanks Christians) considers normal behaviour abnormal.

Thanks for this story. I think the same thing applies to south Korea.

As a teacher over there it almost made me choke with laughter when middle-aged Koreans tried to tell me that there were no gay people in South Korea - only gay foreigners. I guess they didn't know the quant village named, "Homo Hill."

Gaydar has nothing to do with feminine mannerisms or stereotypes. It has everything to do with eye contact.
