Police officers had to shoot a pit bull Tuesday night after it attacked a group of children. The attack happened near the playground at Los Encinos Elementary. The black and white male bit a young girl and then hid underneath a portable building. Police and animal control workers tried to catch the dog, but had to shoot it when it charged toward an officer. The dog survived the shooting, but KRIS 6 News was told it will likely be put down. Meanwhile, the girl's father said her injuries don't appear all that serious. "The big one is OK. She's got a bite in the back. We're going to take her to the emergency room. And then my little one, she's just really, really scared," the girl's father, Patrick Townsell, said. Police said they'll try to track down the dog's owner, and if he or she is found, they could be help responsible for the attack.
